Coryn's GOLDEN Birthday was made extra special with Auntie Leah coming to stay with us for the weekend AND a trip to the movie theater to see Brave.
Cokes was a very happy newly-four-year-old - reading her Plant a Kiss and fairy books, wearing her new golden, glittery Princess Belle dress and pink heart TOMS, and of course, eating her chocolate cake with pink frosting and sprinkles.
I finally bit the bullet and bought an umbrella for our patio table. Which means we've been eating outside more often - even for breakfast. Mallory approves. Why didn't we buy one of these sooner?
Remember when Jo was all set to take ballet last year? And then she broke a bone in her foot the day before her birthday? And was in a cast and on crutches for the first 6 weeks of kindergarten? Maybe this picture will jog your memory:
A whole year later, Jo finally got to take her first ballet class. She had her recital and Grammy BB came to see her dance.
Jo said ballet was fun, but now she's aching to take tennis lessons.
She's been practicing with her raquet in the backyard. Her first lesson is Sept. 10th at the courts right down the road from our house.
Last weekend we had the girls' joint birthday party at our house, with VIP guests: Uncle Marc, Aunt Anne, Noah and Uncle Andrew. The weather was sooo perfect - sunny and warm - but not sticky or hot.
Party activities included hula hooping, piƱata jabbing and birthday-wish making.

Keeping the tradition alive, Matt and Uncle Andrew took Jo and Cokes to the Renaissance Faire last Sunday. But this year, the girls wore their new princess gowns and garnered a fair amount of attention from the other costumed workers - one even gave Jo a long-stemmed rose.
Mallory stayed home with me this time, but maybe next year she'll be ready to join her sisters at the Faire.
Yesterday was Jo's official birthday. In the morning I asked if there was anything special she'd like to do.
Jo said: It's a perfect day for a bike ride.
Matt's been taking Jo on the gravel path in our backyard park for practice on her two-wheeler, but yesterday she ventured onto the neighborhood streets and the Bugline Trail for the first time. Jo rode her bike like a pro all the way to the library. The girls picked out some books, made a craft and played a game of checkers.
Back at home we ate lunch and then Matt took the girls to the neighbor's pool for a dip while Mallory napped. Those swim lessons at Arrowhead this summer really paid off - Jo jumps in and swims under the water like a fish. Matt was all worn out from fetching the sinkers Jo kept tossing into the deep end.
