Learning a jig
Friday night we were invited to see Coryn's classmate perform at a local Irish pub. The friend recently joined the world-famous Trinity Irish Dance troupe.
Earlier that day I got a message from an old friend of mine who was in town from Paris (hence Jo's Paris t-shirt). This old friend had been my roommate in Madrid and Friday happened to be her last night in Milwaukee. We picked her up from work at the Tosa Research Park and headed directly to the Irish pub. Matt met us there. The adults took advantage of the all-you-can-eat fish fry buffet while the kids waited and waited and waited for their chicken bites & fries. The pub was packed to the gills with Trinity groupies young and old.
At 6pm the dancers stormed the stage. All of us were mesmerised by the music, the costumes, the perfectly choreographed movements and the beat of hard-soled shoes on the wood floor.
The girls kept asking when Caroline would be on the stage. Hers was the last group to come on: The Riverdancers. These littlest ones were accompanied on stage by two older girls. Coryn frantically tried to spot Caroline, but it was hard for her to pick out her classmate from the row of girls in matching costumes with bountiful curly wigs.
After the show, our girls were invited up on stage by the senior dancers to learn a jig. Then, Caroline's mom took Jo & Cokes "backstage" to see Caroline. Now, the girls are buzzing with talk of taking Irish dance lessons after they're done with swim class.
