Welcome Gloria Grace!

Friday morning we drove to the hospital eager to meet our baby. It was a a frosty, overcast morning with gusty winds making the snow swirl and dance across the road. Following orders from Mom's OB, Nurse Kellie induced labor at 9am. Dr. Hasenyager showed up at 10:40am, eager to meet baby too. Mom and Dad walked a few more laps around the Labor and Delivery unit to help increase contractions. A little before noon Dr. Haseyager checked Mom and saw baby was nearly ready. She broke the bag of water and calmly slipped on her delivery smock and booties. At 12:37pm Mom screamed, pushed once and there was our baby.

Its a girl! announced Dad.

And then, the sun came out. We opened the blinds on the window to let the warm rays stream in. We were exhausted and overjoyed. The three of us napped like kitty cats.

Uncle Adam was the first to come and meet Gloria Grace. He came bearing gifts for Mom and Dad: Japanese pan noodles, Sprecher root beer, lemonade and donuts. Uncle Adam held Baby Gloria while Mom and Dad feasted.

An hour later, Little Gram and Pop Pop brought the Big Sisters to the hospital. They were SO happy to meet baby! They literally ran into the room to see her.

Mallory has tears in her eyes because she didn't want anyone else to hold Gloria. That's my baby!  she said.

Saturday morning Mom and Dad were intent on bringing Baby Gloria home ASAP. We had to wait for the on-call pediatrician and the lab to draw blood for the newborn screen.

At 2pm we were discharged. Just as we were leaving the hospital Grandma Gloria called to say she was on her way to meet her great-granddaughter. She came and didn't want to disturb the sleeping baby. So we sat in the sunroom drinking tea and eating our favorite Bay Bakery cookies. It was another sunny afternoon, made a little sunnier with the sight of these two Glorias.
