Mallory is Five!

Today Mallory officially turned five-years-old at 7pm.

But the celebration started on Friday with a sleepover at Grammy and Pop Pop TM's house.
On Saturday Grammy and Great Grandma Jo took Mallory, Cokes and Glory to see the Fancy Nancy play at MU. Jo stayed with PopPop and whiled away the afternoon watching old episodes of Popeye The Sailor Man.

That night we had a mostly impromptu birthday taco dinner made complete with an ice cream cake provided by Uncle Adam.

Mallory requested red velvet cake balls for her class treat. So we made those on Monday. During lunch Mallory narrated for me what happened at recess that day:

Her friend slipped on ice and fell.
The girl cried out for Mallory, because Mallory is "a half-doctor."
Mallory rushed over, rolled up her friend's pant leg and saw that her knee was bleeding.
Then Mallory told the teacher her friend needed a band aid.
The End.

This morning Mallory brought the cake balls to school. There were enough to share with the office staff and Mallory was surprised to find out red velvet cake balls are the principal's favorite sweet treat.

Today Little Gram came over for a birthday lunch - salami sandwiches, cheese and strawberries. For dessert Little Gram took Mallory and Gloria to Culver's for ice cream sundaes.

Mallory asked for tacos again for dinner tonight and we obliged.

I thought perhaps she had her fill of being serenaded - after her class that morning and later her aunts, uncles and cousins had sung Happy Birthday to her already. But I was wrong.

One more time!
Jo turned out the lights, Matt held the #5 candle and CoCo lit it.
We sang Happy Birthday Dear Mallory and she blew out the flame.

After more cake balls, Mallory asked to read her baby book. I read through the opening pages recounting my pregnancy, but then Coryn took over, pointing out favorite photos - including the one when Cokes and Jo invaded Mallory's crib.

The remainder of the evening she and Glory played with flying horse figurines while the big sisters finished their homework. Before bed Mallory asked me to read her the story of Madeline. We've read it so many times together, she can just about read it herself.

In the past year:
Mallory learned to write her name, finished 3K at QoA, was a flower girl for Uncle Andrew & Aunt Monique's wedding, quit sucking her fingers, rode a real pony, started 4K at Aquinas, is fascinated with scissors, flying horses and St. Joan of Arc, and created a new hairstyle by cutting her own hair.

We love the sparkle in your eye, the dimples on your cheeks and how you make us laugh every single day. You are an immortal gem!

Love,
Mom & Dad
