A walk in the woods

One day during Jo & Coryn's week off for Easter Break, Matt took the afternoon off. It was sunny and cool. The perfect day for a family hike in the woods. We packed a backpack with water bottles and snacks and drove 20 min to the Loew Lake Unit in the Kettle Moraine Forest.

At the trail head Josephine spotted two large walking sticks. She gave one to me. The other Matt split into two, one for Jo and one for Cokes. Jo carried the backpack. Coryn held the trail map. We started down the trail, which was rather mucky. As we turned a bend, the trail became sheer ice and steep. I was glad to have a walking stick.

Roughly 20 minutes later we cut across an open field and found a meager pond. We sat down by it and re-fueled for the hike back to the car. After we made it through the icey terrain, Matt led us off the mucky trail and we walked along the road back to the parking lot. We left our walking sticks for the next hikers. It was nearing dinner time, so we drove north to The Mineshaft. We feasted on fries and burgers and then played a couple arcade games. A random guy at the arcade gave the girls a wad of tickets he'd won. They turned in the tickets to claim a prize: three parachuting monkeys.
