This planner instinct of mine is yet another one I am working to curtail. Because the truth is life happens, and usually not according to my specified plan.
A few weeks ago a school family had 4 spare tickets to the Holiday Pops Show put on by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. But it was just two days before the performance. Lucky for us, we had nothing on the calendar that night.
On a whim I called the mom of Coryn's best friend from 5k to see if they could join us at the show.
Two days later, the mom and her daughter picked up Coryn and I right after dinner. We headed to a local coffee shop for a cookie and hot cocoa so we could chitchat. Coryn dominated the conversation - but in a good way. She loves telling stories. Then we drove downtown, parked and walked over to the theater. We picked up our tickets at Will Call and filed into our seats just as the show was starting.
The expansive stage was filled edge to edge with musicians and instruments, music stands and choir members. I have no idea how to estimate the number of people who were on the stage - 50? 100? The number doesn't really matter. But the sound, was nothing short of heavenly.
After the opening song ended, Coryn couldn't contain herself: That was AMAZING!
Coryn's friend (who happens to take violin lessons) was just as awe-struck.
