We were all rather hesitant to get too attached to
these kittens as they were quite small and sickly.
A friend saw the three
kittens and suggested naming each one Edgar, Allen, and Poe.
Sadly, two of the
kittens passed away. One kitten has survived.
Well, Edgar is the one alive.
Just this week we realized Edgar is actually a girl!
We decided it was
time to come up with a proper name for her.
Josephine even chimed in from across the pond.
She is
henceforth called:
Ember Edelweiss Flashlight
Mallory is our animal lover and
due to her tenacious devotion to bottle feedings, Timothy Boomerang has a little playmate.
For me, this is all a complicated lesson in humility and surrender.
I am
severely allergic to cats.
On the bright side, Louisiana is generally a temperate
enough climate for cats to live outside. Our yard had once been an unwelcome haven for scads of stray cats to prowl and lurk and leave their business. Now our yard is dutifully guarded by Timothy and Ember.
(If you can't beat em, join em?)
On the dark side, we have taken in five
abandoned kittens and buried three.

So much learned and learning from abandoned kittens! Love those who are meant to survive.
