autumn whirlwind

Over the summer while we were playing in a friend's backyard I remarked how beautiful their trees were. Turns out the trees that caught my eye were 1st birthday gifts for each of their children from the grandparents. I was amazed to see how tall the maple trees had grown in just 7, 6 and 3 years time and was inspired to take action.
The first week in October THREE young trees were planted in our yard! I've been dreaming about planting trees since we moved here and now they are finally in the ground and growing. Two of the trees are redpointe maples and the third tree is a pagoda dogwood. I've been meaning to take a photo of Mallory/Coryn/Josephine in front of the trees but we've had a whole string of dreary, rainy days and so many other things going on that it just hasn't happened yet. I'm thinking we'll have a fourth tree planted in the spring for Gloria.

We had a houseful of visitors stay with us last weekend for Uncle Adam and Aunt Brittany's wedding -  Auntie Leah, Uncle Omar, Aunt Amy, Uncle Dominic and cousins Bailey and Brooklyn! Our girls were thrilled to have cousins to play with and it felt so darn good to be surrounded by family. Thursday night we gathered at Great Grandma Jo's house to welcome all the travelers and sing Happy 30th Birthday to Auntie Sarah.

Friday night was the rehearsal at the church. Josephine, Coryn and Mallory practiced walking down the aisle holding a sign that read: Uncle Adam, here comes your Bride
We stayed at a hotel in Madison for two nights. The hotel pool had the perfect set-up: a shallow area with slide and fountains. The little cousins had a field day splashing around Saturday morning while the groomsmen were prepping for the main event. After lunch Gloria and Mallory both took naps in our room  and Coryn and Jo snuggled on Auntie Leah's bed watching cartoons.
We made it to the church minutes before the ceremony was set to begin. Aunt Anne flawlessly tied red ribbons as sashes on Jo's, Coryn's and Mallory's flower girl dresses before they lined up in the back of church. Cousin Noah dragged little brother Ben down the aisle just before the flower girls walked down together. We made it thru the mass without any mishaps. Aunt Whitney held Gloria while Mom and Aunt Leah read the Prayers of the Faithful.

On the way to the reception we took a scenic ride through the blazing fall colors at the arboretum. The girls sat patiently through all the toasts before the music started for dancing. Once the music started they never left the dance floor. Coryn couldn't take her eyes off the radiant bride Aunt Brittany.

Monday was a bonus day with Auntie Leah and Uncle Omar. We drove to Holy Hill. Mallory ran through the crunchy leaves up to to the scenic tower entrance and climbed the 178 steps to the top.
